Kentucky crops: wheat 73% harvested, soybean conditions hold steady

Hot and dry weather is helping Kentucky farmers make significant advancements in wheat harvest.

Seventy-three percent of the crop is harvested with 73 percent rated good to excellent. 

Kentucky’s corn crop is rated 65 percent good to excellent with 97 percent planted, 93 percent emerged, and 9 percent silking.  Soybeans are called 63 percent good to excellent.  Eighty-six percent is planted, 74 percent emerged, and 5 percent blooming.

Tobacco is 87 percent set and 77 percent good to excellent.

Pastures are rated 73 percent good to excellent and the first cutting of hay is 88 percent complete and is 78 percent good to excellent.

Soil moisture has dropped significantly in a week, topsoil moisture is 61 percent adequate to surplus while subsoil is 71 percent adequate to surplus.
