Kentucky wheat harvest winding down

Drier weather is helping Kentucky farmers make significant advancements in wheat harvest.  Ninety-one percent of the crop is harvested.

Kentucky’s corn crop is rated 64 percent good to excellent, a slight decline on the week.  Thirty-two percent of the crop is silking.    Soybeans are rated 64 percent good to excellent, a 1 percent improvement on the week.  The crop is 94 percent planted, 84 percent emerged, and 17 percent blooming. 

Tobacco is rated 79 percent good to excellent, with 95 percent of the crop set and 3 percent blooming. 

Pastures are rated 70 percent good to excellent and the first cutting of hay is 88 percent complete and is 95 percent good to excellent.

Soil moisture improved week-to-week, topsoil moisture is 69 percent adequate to surplus and subsoil is 72 percent adequate to surplus.
