Lack of farm bill top of mind

The lack of a new five-year farm bill is causing concern amongst farmers and landowners.

David Iserman, who farms in north-central Illinois and serves as LaSalle County Farm Bureau President, says there’s a lot of uncertainty around the future of farm programs.

“How is the lack of a farm bill, or you know, if they’re gonna extend the farm bill, how does that affect them.”  He says, “Crop insurance. You know, crop insurance is very important to the farmers, and it’s important to anybody that is renting.”

He tells Brownfield the unknowns add more challenges to planning for 2025.

“We need to get that taken care of, and there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of push right now.”  He says, “Of course, with the new administration coming in, there’s a lot of questions, but it’s really important with the problems that we’re having in the farm economy now to get that done. So, we know exactly what we’ve got, what we can count on.”

Iserman spoke with Brownfield at the University of Illinois Extension Landowners Conference in Oglesby, Illinois.
