Lawmakers ask Rollins to expedite disaster relief

A bipartisan group of Congressional lawmakers from the southeastern United States sent a letter to Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins asking her to expedite the rulemaking process for disaster relief.

The letter says following the catastrophic damages caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, ag producers are relying heavily on USDA to efficiently and fairly disperse the assistance. Lawmakers stress producers from vulnerable ag communities are at risk of greatly downsizing or having to shut down their operations if funding isn’t fully accessible in the coming months.

At the Commodity Classic, Rollins said the agency is working on quick implementation of the $20 billion in disaster assistance and it won’t take an entire year.
