Lawmakers seek Biden administration’s support of GREET model

The U.S. ethanol industry is taking steps to overcome regulatory hurdles and become a top feedstock for Sustainable Aviation Fuel. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack is expected to address that at the National Ethanol Conference today.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers sent a letter the secretary and other agencies last week asking for support of an updated lifecycle model, called the Greenhouse Gases, Regulated Emissions and Energy Use in Technologies model or GREET, which uses the latest information on carbon emissions for U.S. ethanol.

In the letter, lawmakers said the updated GREET model must be completed and implemented by March 1 and if not, biofuel producer investments will remain on hold. Read the letter.

The secretary is scheduled to speak at the conference starting at 9:45 a.m. pacific and his remarks will be live streamed.
