Leasing gains ground as farmers navigate tight ag economy

Some farmers are turning to leasing during the down ag economy.

Compeer Financial senior leasing specialist Anjie Erbsen says she works with farmers on building, grain handling, and equipment projects.

“We are in an area in the ag economy currently where cash flow is tight for many clients, so we also want to make sure that we’re designing programs that fit into their cash flow. Many times that means we’re customizing payment schedules to be due at particular times of the year.”

Speaking to Brownfield at the Compeer Financial Groundbreakers Conference in St. Paul Friday, she said there’s a lot of interest in adding on-farm grain storage capacity despite less working capital.

“So most grain handling decisions are being made, probably starting as early as November of ’25 and probably going through the next month or two.”

Erbsen says leases can help with cash flow and financial flexibility.
