Legislation to protect AM radio re-introduced in Senate
The new legislative session brings a renewed effort to keep AM radios in cars and trucks.
Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin tells Brownfield the bipartisan AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act would keep AM radio accessible in all new passenger vehicles, including electric vehicles at no additional charge. “We are seeing an increasing number of the major automakers removing AM radios from teh vehicles they produce and forcing customers to pay more just to get this needed resource that used to come with.”
Baldwin says farmers rely on the services provided by AM radio, and they need access to it on the farm or on the go. “Yeah, when I’m out in the barn, that’s what’s on is the AM radio during milking time and other times, and so I understand what a lifeline it is for community information, for safety alerts, and for just getting farm news.”
The legislation is being introduced with the bipartisan support of 39 Senators and will go to the Commerce Committee, which Baldwin serves on. She’s optimistic the bill will make it to the President’s desk this time around.
