Lessons learned in the livestock barn
Youth livestock exhibitors participating in the Missouri State Fair’s Sale of Champions say life lessons are learned in the livestock barn.
Beau Ann Graves from Livingston County in northern Missouri exhibited the grand champion steer. She tells Brownfield she set a goal to participate in the Sale of Champions years ago.
“People always tell me to never give up and it’s true,” she says. “There’s many times I’ve wanted to hold my head down, but it kept it up and continued to push. You have to give 110%, because at the end of the day it will pay off.”
Cole Murphy from Saline County in central Missouri says he’s learned to value the people he shows with at the Missouri State Fair.
“It’s a big family in the hog barn. In the 10 days of the fair, it doesn’t seem like anything else matters besides what happens in the barn. It’s my happy place and will continue to be.”
The Missouri State Fair’s Sale of Champions raised more than $350,000 for youth scholarships.
