Letter to Congressional leaders on E15 states emphatically “Get it done”
Supporters are urging Congressional leaders to get year-round nationwide E15 across the finish line.
Iowa Renewable Fuels Association executive director Monte Shaw says attendees of their annual summit this week signed a letter sent to House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune calling for an immediate fix for year-round E15.
“Get it done. No more Iowa Nice, no more patience. We’ve been waiting 10 years. I don’t know if it was because in December we came so close you could almost taste it, only to have it snatched away for really dumb reasons at the end. But the patience is over.”
He tells Brownfield year-round nationwide E15 would help near-term ethanol demand.
“So Congress will have another bite at the apple in March, that’s when the Continuing Resolution that funded the government (that) passed in December without the E15 fix. So in March they’re going to have to do some kind of funding bill, that will be another opportunity to fix E15 (and) it needs to be done.”
The text of the letter to House and Senate leadership says allowing year-round E15 supports farmers struggling with low commodity prices and increases consumer choice with lower cost, cleaner-burning options at the pump.
