Lobbyist says Rollins nomination could be good for ag
The head lobbyist for Syngenta says President-elect Trump’s nomination of Brooke Rollins for Secretary of Agriculture could be good for the industry.
Mary Kay Thatcher tells Brownfield, “I think that she’s got some good background.” She says, “She grew up on a farm, has an agricultural degree, was a state FFA officer, and she served on the Domestic Policy Council. So, while she probably is not steeped in ag policy, she knows something about it.”
She says the former White House aide under the first Trump administration brings a connection to the Oval Office.
“And that’s going to be really key,” she says, “because there are going to be things that affect agriculture that we’re going to need the Secretary of Ag to stand up and be willing to go to the president and say, ‘Hey, this is going to affect your constituents in this way.’”
Rollins, like other cabinet nominees, must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
