Local buyers taking advantage of Iowa farmland opportunities

The vice president of Iowa Appraisal says local communities have been driving the farmland market in the state.
Jim Rothermich tells Brownfield that September has been a strong month for ag land sales.
“Most of them are local buyers, like at a $24,400 per acre sale in Mitchell County. That was local buyers there for that.”
He says there are currently some investment opportunities at auctions.
“What I’m noticing is some of these lower quality farms going to auction are relying on just the local buyers. Those are kind of falling through the cracks and I really think there’s some good buying opportunities on those types of tracts of land.”
Rothermich says the steadiness of Iowa’s farmland market has been remarkable given the state of current economic conditions.
