Local meat processors receive USDA grants

The USDA is granting more than $35 million to independent meat processors to boost processing capacity and expand market opportunities.

Independent meat processors in 12 states including Arkansas, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Nebraska will receive funding from USDA.

In Missouri, America’s Heartland Packing being built outside of St. Louis will receive $10 million. Natural State Processing in Arkansas, Palindromes in Missouri and Damian’s Craft Meats in Michigan will receive more than $3 million. Other states within the Brownfield coverage area have grants ranging from $500,000 to more than $1 million.

USDA says this will be the final investment in the Meat and Poultry Processing Expansion Program, which was funded by the American Rescue Plan. Read more.
