MAA says farm bill progress could help protect farmer access to pesticides

The executive director of the Modern Ag Alliance says the advancement of the farm bill is a key step towards protecting farmer access to crop protection tools.
Elizabeth Burns-Thompson says the legislation would prohibit state governments from mandating strict labeling requirements.
“We really urge the House to act swiftly to get that bill to the floor,” she says. “It does still have a long path to get to the finish line, but it really is incumbent upon food security being national security.”
She tells Brownfield pesticide label certainty is long overdue.
“Recognition that the label is the law and consistency around the health and safety warnings on the label is the piece that we’re working towards,” she says.
Burns-Thompson says other members of the ag industry are working to create research-based solutions designed to help farmers create a stronger food supply.
The House Ag Committee recently moved bill out of committee with a 37-17 vote and bipartisan support.
