May dairy stocks show butter building

Stocks of butter are up on the year while cheese inventories are declining.

The USDA’s latest Cold Storage report pegs May cheese stocks at more than 1.4 billion pounds, down slightly from the prior month and four percent from last year.

Butter inventories were up five percent from the previous month and three percent from a year ago at more than 308 million pounds.
