Mead, NE ethanol plant working toward compliance
Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts says the closed ethanol plant in Mead is working to reach compliance.
“We are continuing to work with the EPA and the plant and so forth on getting them into compliance,” he said.
The AltEn plant was ordered to shut down by the state earlier this month after a site visit showed the plant’s pesticide levels in lagoons was beyond EPA standards. The plant was notified last October that it was not in compliance with the EPA.
Ricketts said the timeframe of the plant’s review was standard.
“It was done in an appropriate way in an appropriate timeframe based upon the laws and the way that we manage the process,” Ricketts said.
No timeframe was given for the plant’s reopening. Ricketts made his comments to reporters Friday in a COVID vaccine update.
