Michigan ag applauds deer baiting veto
The Agricultural Leaders of Michigan are applauding their Governor’s veto of deer baiting legislation.
Dave Armstrong with GreenStone Farm Credit Services, Jim Byrum with the Michigan Agri-Business Association, Mary Kelpinski with the Michigan Pork Producers Association, and Ken Nobis with the Michigan Milk Producers Association say Governor Gretchen Whitmer did the right thing by blocking a bill that would have lifted the state’s ban on deer baiting.
The ALM calls the legislation dangerous and says it would have increased the chances of spreading Chronic Wasting Disease, Bovine Tuberculosis and other diseases, putting domestic animals like cows at a higher risk. They call the current baiting ban a commonsense approach to help stop the spread of diseases.
