Michigan Cattlemen’s Foundation established
The Michigan Cattlemen’s Association has formed a foundation to support young producers in the state.
Immediate Past President Dave Girton tells Brownfield, “The ultimate mission of the foundation is to promote and develop leadership in the beef industry in Michigan and create and enhance educational opportunities for the young people and animal agriculture in the state.”
The association’s young producer program was a passion for Brian Plank who died in a farming accident while serving as the organization’s President.
Girton says members wanted to honor his memory and provide further support for young leaders.
“The young people that are the future of the industry are going to lead it forward and make the improvements necessary to make the industry better and keep it viable as we move into the future,” he says.
Girton says the foundation will support attendance to the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s Young Cattlemen’s Conference, but he hopes it grows to support scholarships, judging programs, and more.
Donations to the Michigan Cattlemen’s Foundation are tax deductible.
