Midwest crops benefitting from weather break; August forecast promising

A senior science fellow with Nutrien Ag Solutions says midwestern crops are benefitting from cooler weather.

Eric Snodgrass tells Brownfield…

“We will likely get through a lot of this pollination looking pretty good, but we have to wait to see how the temperatures evolve during August.”  He says, “But I think there’s a better chance than not that we spend some of August with some warm temperatures.”

He says precipitation forecasts for August are also shaping up in the crop’s favor.

“I do expect for there to be a pretty active, you know, go of it with respect to storms right through the heart of the Corn Belt.”  He says, “I mean, it means a pretty good outlook right now for the soybeans to get the moisture they need. So right now, I’m more optimistic about the way things look going into this month of August.”

Snodgrass says August also marks the traditional start of the Atlantic hurricane season, which could still impact the 2024 crop.
