Minnesota Biofuels Association director not seeing EV’s as competition

The director of the Minnesota Biofuels Association suggests the notion that biofuels are competing with electric vehicles has been exaggerated.

Brian Werner says despite state and national efforts to electrify the transportation sector, liquid fuels will still be necessary for decades to come.

“That being the case, I think if the goal is to immediately decarbonize our transportation fuel sector, then all options to reduce emissions should be on the table.”

He tells Brownfield numerous studies have shown ethanol reduces greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 50 percent compared to gasoline.

“We just want a level playing field so that consumers can make the best decision for them.”

Which is why Werner says the renewable fuels industry has been focused on upgrading biofuel infrastructure at retail locations.
