Minnesota E15 sales hit record high for fifth consecutive year

Sales of E15 in Minnesota broke records for a fifth straight year in 2025.
Minnesota Biofuels Association executive director Brian Werner says the total of more than 144 million gallons eclipsed the previous record by more than one percent.
“And it’s also the fourth straight year in which we’ve seen numbers above 100 million gallons. So this is really exciting because it shows that not only are we continuing to grow, we’re also just kind of maintaining that momentum.”
He tells Brownfield demand for E15, often identified as Unleaded 88 at the pump, continues to rise despite federal regulations limiting its nationwide availability during the summer months.
“Minnesota and several of the other Midwest states, because our governors took action to allow year-round E15, we have seen I think because of that regulatory certainty, retailers know in the state of Minnesota they will be able to offer the fuel year-round. So I think that makes a huge difference.”
Werner says 2025 also saw more retailers offering Unleaded 88, with the fuel now offered at over 550 stations across Minnesota.
