Minnesota Extension educator: “harvest isn’t where we hoped”
An Extension crops educator says the corn and soybean harvest in Minnesota isn’t where she hoped it would be.
Liz Stahl with the University of Minnesota tells Brownfield a challenging spring has been followed up with a rough start to fall.
“A soggy start, and we’re having a soggy finish. There’s a lot of crops that are ready to go, so we’re just waiting for things to dry out.”
She says stalk integrity is a concern in corn, and Stahl is worried about soybeans too.
“When (the soybeans) go through a lot of cycles of wetting and drying, that’s a concern too. We don’t want to get pod shatter (or) mold.”
Stahl says crops where mold is present should be segregated.
