Minnesota Farm Bureau cautiously optimistic about sustainable aviation fuel

Sustainable aviation fuel is generating a lot of interest as an emerging market for crops.

But Minnesota Farm Bureau vice president Carolyn Olson says a lot of uncertainty remains.

“Surrounding some of the tax credits and whether or not Minnesota farmers will qualify for those.”

She tells Brownfield Minnesota has the biofuel infrastructure in place to help the SAF market grow.

“On the ethanol and soy oil and soy diesel types of markets that they would be a great fit to be able to add that sustainable aviation fuel aspect to our state.”

Olson says the question is whether sustainable aviation fuel feedstocks like corn and soybeans will meet the tax credit parameters.

Federal guidance for SAF tax credits is supposed to be announced by the beginning of next year.
