Minnesota Farm Bureau president confident in farm bill process

A Farm Bureau official is confident farm bill negotiators will continue working hard to finalize the 2018 Farm Bill.

Minnesota Farm Bureau president Kevin Paap tells Brownfield farmers and ranchers expect nothing less from the four principle leaders of the farm bill conference committee, especially Minnesota Democrat and House Ag Committee Ranking Member Collin Peterson.

“And we’re excited to have Congressman Peterson, one of those four people, at the table for us each and every day.  They’re used to working together, they’re used to getting their chores done.  We certainly hope they’ll continue to work toward blending two versions into one.”

Paap says it’s more important to get the farm bill done right than on time.

“It’s a process, and we just need to continue to remind those elected officials that we need to be getting this done as soon as possible.”

He says farmers need farm bill certainty as they plan for next year and beyond.
