Minnesota farm family picking up pieces following overnight storm

A farm family is contemplating next steps after severe storms ripped through west-central Minnesota Monday night.

Tiffany Kobberman farms with her husband near Hancock and says the devastation is widespread.

“We received more than four minutes of hail, which really stripped a lot of it. So most of our corn is just stalks, the soybeans are completely flattened. It’s hard to see that it was soybeans.”

She tells Brownfield crops in the area were looking fantastic.

“So seeing this devastation take away in just a couple minutes is horrendous.”

Strong winds also toppled over crops and Kobberman says her family has already met with insurance adjustors.

“Right away it was a meeting, what are we going to do? Is there time to replant anything? Do we think about putting in a cover crop where the soybeans are because there’s so much soil exposed?”

Kobberman also raises livestock and says they have begun assessing the corn to see if it would still be viable to chop for silage.
