Minnesota farmer battles stubborn weeds in soybeans

A northwest Minnesota farmer is having mixed success controlling weeds.

Austen Germolus of Borup says there’s not much weed pressure in wheat or corn.

“Beans is a different challenge. Did one application of Enlist a couple weeks ago, but it’s been tough. Some of these weeds are hanging on, and we had decent spray windows and weather for the application, it just doesn’t seem like it wants to work the way it should.”

He tells Brownfield the weather has not been favorable for crop diseases.

“We can get head scab (in wheat), but that’s been looking pretty good. And I think the weather we’ve had is going to be good for keeping head scab at bay.”

Germolus says white mold can sometimes be a problem in soybeans.
