Minnesota farmer begins planting on forecast for warmer weather

Planters are rolling in areas where it’s been unseasonably cool but trending warmer.

Jerry Demmer of Clarks Grove in southern Minnesota tells Brownfield he started planting corn Thursday.

“Most farmers have been holding off because the weather forecast was cooler, (and) now they’re getting started. (plus) The calendar and field conditions say it’s time to put the corn in the ground.”

He says planting conditions are the best he’s seen in a long time.

“Sometimes we dwell on the wetter years (when) it’s tough to get the crop in, but this year the field conditions are perfect.”

Demmer says based on the forecast, he should be done planting corn by Monday.
