Minnesota farmer calls grain markets a “wildcard”

A southeast Minnesota farmer is uncertain of where the grain markets are headed.

“I think that’s a bigger wildcard than the weather.”

Brent Mohn grows corn and soybeans near Lakeville and says he expects drought impacts to be regional.

“Some of them are going to be worse than guys expected (and) some of (the impacts) are going to be less than guys expected, so I don’t know that production issues are going to be some of the driving force in the market over the next few months.”

Mohn tells Brownfield he’s managing risk by spreading out sales and using bin space to take advantage of forward contracting.
