Minnesota farmer concerned about the future of the farm bill

An American Soybean Association board member is concerned about the future of the farm bill.

Bob Worth, who farms near Lake Benton in southwest Minnesota, tells Brownfield including the Nutrition Title helped garner broader support for the farm bill in Congress.

“And if we don’t have that part of it, it’s going to be difficult.”

Lawmakers moved the nutrition and commodity titles into the reconciliation package that passed this summer.

Worth says farmers still need a farm bill.

“I hope they put it all together in one big bill (so) they’ll only need to vote on the skinny part of it. But we need to make sure where crop insurance is, make sure where conservation is. We definitely need an improvement on Title One.”

He says the Foreign Market Development and Market Access Programs are other important pieces of the farm bill currently in limbo.
