Minnesota farmer focused on break-evens
A northwest Minnesota farmer is building her marketing plan around cost of production.
Theresia Gillie of Hallock says she uses an online tool from North Dakota State University’s website to identify her break- even point.
“Put your last three years over your different expenses and stuff in, talk to your fertilizer and chemical guys (to) make sure you can keep the costs about as low as possible.”
She tells Brownfield there are factors farmers can control.
“So you need to really control those expense factors to make sure you can be profitable next year.”
Gillie recently finished harvest and says she had an excellent wheat crop and soybean yields were good.
