Minnesota farmer stays busy post-harvest

A farmer in west-central Minnesota plans to keep busy through the end of the year.

Swift County corn and soybean grower Nathan Collins tells Brownfield there’s a misconception that farm activity goes quiet at the conclusion of fall fieldwork.

“I usually tell people we typically will drop back to about 40, 45 hours a week for the next couple of months. We’ll get everything wrapped up, cleaned up, put away, and make it look like new again.”

He says a significant amount of planning for the next year happens each December.

“Visiting with all the people we work with to make sure we’re putting ourselves in the right position for the coming year and years in the future.”

Collins says that includes grain marketing, securing inputs, and year-end tax preparation.
