Minnesota Farmers Union continues call for competition title in next farm bill

Farmers Union members continue to call for a competition title in the next farm bill.

Minnesota Farmers Union vice president Anne Schwagerl tells Brownfield that includes greater enforcement of the Packers and Stockyards Act.

“So that there’s greater transparency in cattle markets, as well as bring back mandatory Country of Origin labeling.”

She acknowledges the appropriations process is stunting farm bill negotiations.

“That’s probably sucking a lot of the air out of Washington D.C. right now is the budget talks and trying to avert a shutdown of the federal government.”

Schwagerl says the farm bill is much bigger than spending choices, calling it an investment in rural America.
