Minnesota FFA virtual convention underway

Minnesota FFA president Lafe Aarsvold at conclusion of 2019 convention

The Minnesota FFA virtual convention is underway.

State president Lafe Aarsvold says the association wanted to move forward despite the COVID-19 pandemic forcing organizers to postpone last month’s event.

“And I think this really shows the strength of Minnesota FFA. We decided that we aren’t going to just shut down the state, we aren’t going to just rollover because a pandemic hit. We’re going to take this and say we’re still going to celebrate the successes of the year. We’re still going to recognize the students that deserve being recognized.”

The Plainview native tells Brownfield the officer team looked at social media as a place for members to gather.

“How do we utilize YouTube and different videos? How can we do pre-recorded things, and still follow guidelines that still bring that energy (and) excitement for convention together? And now we just get to live it (and) enjoy it. We get to enjoy what’s happening and get to see the students, even from afar.”

Aarsvold, who’s studying ag education at the University of Minnesota, says every officer candidate has recorded a president’s address as if they were elected.  The state officer team will be announced tomorrow afternoon. Minnesota FFA is broadcasting the convention on its YouTube channel.
