Minnesota Soybean Growers president “cautiously optimistic” about farm bill
The president of the Minnesota Soybean Growers is among many farmers looking for more progress on the farm bill.
Darin Johnson tells Brownfield agriculture needs the certainty of a five-year farm bill.
“We are being cautiously optimistic that we do get something done on the farm bill, and that it’s done correctly. Especially right now with the devastation that’s out there with some of these crops.”
The Faribault County corn and soybean grower tells Brownfield having an adequate safety net is very important.
“With crop insurance in the farm bill and Title One, and that is something that we’re going to be pushing extremely hard on them to make sure that we do have that safety net in this farm bill. Especially with the extreme weather that we have had.”
Johnson says he’s concerned if the farm bill doesn’t get done this year, lawmakers might have to start over with a new Congress and possibly a new administration.
