Minnesota Soybean Growers watching DNR Public Waters Inventory update closely

Water regulations in the Land of 10,000 Lakes have the attention of the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association.

MSGA president Darin Johnson, who farms near Wells, says the Department of Natural Resources is updating the Public Waters Inventory.

“And making sure that we have regulatory certainty.”

The Public Waters Inventory will be updated over eight years, with the goal of reviewing 12 counties each year in alphabetical order.

Johnson tells Brownfield MSGA is concerned there could be unintended consequences.

“The meetings are just beginning, there’s been a couple of them that have been held. So make sure that you are paying attention to that if that is happening in your county.”

The Minnesota DNR says the Public Waters Inventory’s purpose is to list and map the state’s lakes, rivers, streams, and certain wetlands.
