Minnesota’s Finstad hosts Trade Undersecretary at farmer roundtable

Farmers and farm groups met with USDA Undersecretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Luke Lindberg Wednesday.

Minnesota Congressman Brad Finstad hosted a roundtable in New Ulm, Minnesota and says Linderberg heard concerns that were expressed during the August recess.

“In regards to the current climate and whether it’s the price or the trade talks or the upcoming crop that we have.”

He tells Brownfield the undersecretary was asked about what to expect on the trade front.

“The deals have been signed, we have the new agreements that are reached. But when do we start seeing our crops go on a cargo ship and leave our port? And that was what we really talked about, so he shed some insight in regards to opportunities to connect producers with the new countries or the new deals.”

Finstad says China did come up, and Lindberg indicated he’s hopeful deals with other countries will bring the Chinese back to the table.
