Missouri dairy workshops to focus on profitability

Forage specialist Dr. Bruce Anderson will headline a series of Diary Profit Seminars next week at five locations in Missouri.  In addition to forage, the one-day events cover vaccinations, improving milk quality and financial benchmarks.

Anderson, from the University of Nebraska, will tell how to make high-quality alfalfa and how to measure forage quality.

University of Georgia veterinary medicine professor Roberto Palomares will share ways to vaccinate dairy cattle to prevent respiratory and reproductive diseases.

University of Missouri veterinarians John Middleton and Pam Adkins will offer tips to improve milk quality.

MU Extension dairy and beef economist Joe Horner will talk about ways dairy operators can measure financial benchmarks.

Missouri Dairy Association executive director Dave Drennan will talk about that statewide organization of milk producers.

Attendees are asked to bring a total mixed ration sample for evaluation by MU Extension.
