Missouri farmer optimistic third-times a charm for soybeans

A northwest Missouri farmer excessive rainfall continues to negatively impact crop development.
Jordan Bottiger says it’s been a rough month. “There’s definitely some terrace channels. We planted some beans last week for the third time. We’re not giving up on them until July. The crop is showing it from the water amount.”
He tells Brownfield weed pressure is a major concern. “The residuals are trying to outlast 10-inch, 8-inch, 7-inch and 3-inch rains. That’s a lot to ask. This crop is progressing earlier on, especially corn, and there were some applications that were later than we would’ve like that would have helped get some good coverage on those weeds.”
The USDA corn condition is rated 66 percent good-to-excellent. Soybeans are 59 percent good-to-excellent.
Pasture and range conditions are 66 percent good-to-excellent.
