Missouri Governor Parson: No cabinet changes planned
Missouri Governor Mike Parson says he plans no immediate cabinet changes. During a brief media briefing prior to his first cabinet meeting since taking office, the Governor stated that his predecessor brought together a good team.
“I don’t anticipate any changes in the cabinet that I’m aware of,” Governor Parson told reporters Monday. “All I want to do is be a resource for them; I want to work with the cabinet, because there’s a lot of good things that’s going on in the state of Missouri and we need to continue the things that are good.”
Missouri Director of Agriculture Chris Chinn says Governor Parson expressed to her and other cabinet officials his appreciation and his desire for them to continue their work.
“I plan to stay,” Chinn told reporters Monday. “We have a lot of good things going at the Department of Ag and we want to finish that work.”
Chinn says she’s excited to work with a governor who understands agriculture as a farmer.
“Our farmers and ranchers have hope,” said Chinn, “because they feel like they have one of their own, a friend in the Governors Office now.”
Chinn was appointed by former Governor Eric Greitens.
Governor Parson says it’s going to be what a calls a different day in terms of how he functions, but he stresses his team will be working in unison.
“For me,” said the Governor, “it’s about trying to bring people together, trying to build relationships and try to move forward for the state of Missouri.”
The briefing was postponed several minutes while Governor Parson took a call from U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue.
“And I do want to say he’s offered his services to Missouri, whatever he can do in that arena,” said Parson, “so I enjoyed that visit.”
Governor Parson was sworn in Friday.
