Missouri invests in biofuels

A loan officer with the Missouri Agricultural and Small Business Development Authority (MASBDA) says the state is investing $3.4 million into the biofuels industry.

Jacob Stoehr says it’s aimed at projects that increase the distribution and use of higher blends of ethanol and biodiesel.

“We have several different fuel retailing stations that are going to be putting in pumps and tanks that allow for dispensing higher blends of ethanol, such as E15 and E85, where previously they didn’t offer those options.”  He says, “We have something similar on the biodiesel side.”

He tells Brownfield this is the fourth round of Biofuel Infrastructure Incentive Program funding, which benefits consumers, farmers, and the state’s economy.

“Programs like this that grow markets for corn and soybeans here in the state are a big help to our producers.”  He says, “We have ten biofuel plans here in the state.  Five biodiesel plants and five ethanol plants, and they provide a great market for our producers.”

Stoehr says the partnership with the Missouri Corn Growers Association and the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council is a proven way to increase biofuels access.

“They helped us really identify the need out there for the program.”  He says, “They do help us a little bit in securing the funding for the program, and then one of the biggest partnerships that we have for them is simply outreach to these facilities to help promote the program.  They are great partners in this effort.”
