Missouri State Fair Sale of Champions sets new record

The superintendent of the Missouri State Fair Sale of Champions says it was a record sale this year.

Wayne Yokley tells Brownfield although fewer animals were in the sale this year, donations were up.

“[The] donation was over $180,000 again with fewer animals in the sale, that would’ve been an increase over 2019, so the 2020 sale I think was an extreme success,” he said.

Yokley said the champion steer set a new record bringing more than $40,000 and the reserve champion barrow set a new sale record bringing over $35,000.

He said 30 percent of the sale’s earnings fund scholarships.

“There’ll definitely be an increase in scholarships in 2020 verses 2019,” Yokley said.

The sale raised more than $190,000. 2020 was the first year the sale provided a virtual option for bidding.
