Mixed harvest results for Ohio farmer
A north-central Ohio farmer says his 2024 harvest featured some good and some bad results.
Steve Reinhard raises soybeans, corn, wheat, malting barley, and hay near Bucyrus. “Our soybean crop is actually very good. We were very much average in some fields to a little bit above, so we were very happy with those. We planted our soybeans and mid-April. We had a little bit of reserve there to use later on in the growing season.”
He tells Brownfield some extremely severe drought conditions late in the summer impacted his corn crop. “Some of our corn, which got planted a little bit later in about that second or third week of May, really was affected by the drought. We actually had some very good corn right there at the home farm south of the city of Bucyrus, but as we went west the yields really dropped off.”
Reinhard says he may have to utilize crop insurance on the corn side.
