Mixed week for grain, oilseed export inspections
The USDA says corn export inspections as of the week ending May 8th remain well ahead of the pace needed to meet projections for the current marketing year. The 2024/25 marketing year began June 1st for wheat and September 1st for corn, sorghum, and soybeans.
Wheat came out at 405,170 tons, down 6,641 from the week ending May 1st, but up 22,112 from the week ending May 9th, 2024. The main destinations were the Philippines and Mexico. Late in the 2024/25 marketing year, wheat inspections are 20,278,735 tons, compared to 17,665,383 in 2023/24.
Corn was reported at 1,224,087 tons, 392,719 lower than the previous week, but 219,516 higher than a year ago. The leading destinations were Japan and Mexico. In the final quarter of the marketing year, corn inspections are 43,748,038 tons, compared to 34,010,482 this time last year.
Soybeans were pegged at 426,077 tons, 92,423 more than the prior week, but 7,039 less than last year. The primary destinations were Egypt and Indonesia. So far, this marketing year, soybean inspections are 43,898,598 tons, compared to 39,532,903 a year ago.
Sorghum inspections totaled 11,199 tons, 22 above the week before, but 128,906 below a year ago. The top destinations were Mexico and Vietnam. 2024/25 sorghum inspections are 1,666,524 tons, compared to 4,720,396 in 2023/24.
