MO Bootheel farmers expecting good cotton this fall
Farmers in the Missouri Bootheel say cotton should be ready to harvest in the next month.
Gary Hayes tells Brownfield his crop is expected to be good to average.
“The plants have bolls, a few of them are opening, but still getting age on them and the plants are still adding bolls in the top.”
Barry Bean says his cotton might be outstanding, a turnaround from what was expected when storms moved through at planting.
“We had a near perfect June and July. August has been good and the season has gone as well as we could hope for and we’re expecting good quality this year. Once we got past Memorial Day, the cotton hasn’t seen much stress.”
Both farmers say the challenge at harvest will be cotton prices and marketing the crop.
