MO corn is tasseling and soybeans getting bigger

A farmer in northeast Missouri says corn is starting to tassel and the soybeans are getting bigger.

“This heat and moisture are starting to turn the crops around and they look pretty good.”

Drew Lock says it’s warmer than he’d like for corn pollination, but there’s plenty of moisture in the soil to offset any stress.

“We’re not fully into tasseling yet, but by the end of the week, we’ll have fields that are fully tasseled.”

He says the soybeans are starting to canopy and he’ll be applying herbicides soon.

USDA says Missouri’s corn is rated 74 percent good to excellent with 19 percent of the crop silking. The state’s soybeans are starting to set pods and crop conditions are rated 72 percent good to excellent.
