MO Farm Bureau dismayed by infrastructure proposal

The Missouri Farm Bureau is calling President Biden’s American Jobs Plan a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’ drawing similarities to the Green New Deal.

Missouri Farm Bureau’s Director of Legislative Affairs, Spencer Tuma.

“The amount of funding in the proposed American Jobs Plan for only electric vehicles is more than the amount proposed for roads, bridges and other, what we would call surface transportation infrastructure, combined,” Tuma said.

Missouri Representative Jason Smith said less than 13 percent of the President’s infrastructure proposal is going towards what he calls actual infrastructure like roads and bridges, locks and dams, airports and ports and broadband.

“Now they’re [Biden administration] coming up with a new definition of infrastructure, of human infrastructure, environmental infrastructure or ‘let’s expand Medicaid’ infrastructure,” he said.

Smith said debate over the infrastructure plan will likely pick up in mid-May. Smith was a guest on Missouri Farm Bureau’s Virtual Legislative Briefing Thursday.
