MO Farmers Care Food Drive Happening Tuesday

The Missouri Farmers Care Food Drive is happening at the Missouri State Fair this week.

State Fair Director Jason Moore says state fair attendees can bring two canned food donations for Feeding Missouri to get a $2 fair admission.

“You can help as well with the cause.”

Tuesday is also Missouri FFA Food Insecurity Service Day and in the morning on the fairgrounds there will be 800 FFA members packing 175,000 meals for food banks across the state.

Missouri Ag Director Chris Chinn says it’s a great event and she tells Brownfield, “A few years ago I worked with a student who said they went home to a friend’s house after the Missouri State Fair a few months later and they found one of these packages of food in their pantry. They said it made them proud to play a small part in helping their friend’s family out.”

These aren’t the only ways youth in agriculture and others are giving back during the fair.

Over the weekend following an open barrow hog show, 50 4-H and FFA hogs were donated to Missouri Farmers Care’s Hogs for Hunger campaign. The processed hogs will be donated to Feeding Missouri Food banks.
