Monsanto makes big move into biologicals

Monsanto is making a big move into “agricultural biologicals”.

The company has formed a research and development alliance with Danish company Novozymes, a move that Monsanto chief technology officer Robb Fraley calls “game-changing”.

“Today, agricultural biologicals are being used by millions of farmers,” Fraley says, “and we’re firm believers that there’s an increasing opportunity as we develop this into a technology that can make for a more significant yield difference and increase to many more farmers.”

Biologicals are used to complement or replace agricultural chemical products.  Novozymes has an established commercial business in microbials, offering products that improve fertility, yield and help control disease.
