More wind events leading to added insurance options for farmers

An increase in damaging wind events across the Midwest has led to more insurance options for farmers.

Doug Yoder, crop agency manager for Country Financial, says recent years have provided new challenges for farmers…

“There’s no denying that Illinois farmers are experiencing different types of wind and green snap events than we’ve historically seen.  He says, “I’ve talked to many farmers that have been in business for, you know, 40-50 years. They’ve never bothered to purchase wind; they didn’t need wind coverage in the past.”

He tells Brownfield this has led to new private insurance options for producers…

“We’ve enhanced our green snap options.”  He says, “We’ve significantly increased our wind endorsement options and coverage options, again based on customer feedback, and that led us to enhance our offerings to make the toolbox even more appealing to farmers.”

Most crop insurance enhancement decisions need to be made by the March 15th federal crop insurance deadline.
