More year-over-year gains in broiler sets, placements

Broiler sets and placements continue to run faster than last year’s pace.

The USDA says 248.567 million broiler-type eggs were set into incubators, rising 497,000 on the week and 3% on the year, with average hatchability at 79%, near recent weeks.

191.335 million broiler-type chicks were placed into meat production, falling 354,000 from the previous week, but rising 3% from a year ago, with the 2025 pace also 3% ahead of 2024.

Those birds will start moving to market in March.

The USDA’s next round of annual broiler production projections is out March 11th.

Arkansas: Sets: 25.067 million eggs, compared to 25.257 million the prior week; Placements: 21.225 million head, compared to 21.464 million the week before

Kentucky: Sets: 7.996 million eggs, compared to 7.962 million the prior week; Placements: 5.496 million head, compared to 5.922 million the week before

Missouri: Sets: 8.849 million eggs, compared to 8.918 million the prior week; Placements: 5.712 million head, compared to 5.374 million the week before

California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 15.617 million eggs, compared to 15.844 million the prior week; Placements: 13.728 million head, compared to 12.973 million the week before
