Most Arkansas crops doing well after a dry week

It was a mostly dry week for crops in Arkansas.  USDA reporters say 47% of the cropland has adequate moisture, while 3% has surplus and 37% is short of moisture while subsoil levels are higher.

 Eighty-nine percent of the corn crop is silking with 23% now in the dough stage and 5% has dented.  Twenty-five percent of the corn is in excellent shape, while 51% is rated good and 20% fair.

Nearly all of the cotton has emerged, with 70% squaring and 16% setting bolls.  Twenty-five percent of the cotton is in excellent condition with 50% rated good.

First cutting of hay is 96% finished, with second cutting now 17% complete.  Ten percent of the state’s hay is rated excellent, with 46% in good condition and 35% in fair condition.

Nearly all of the peanuts have emerged, with 32% pegging.  Forty-one percent of the crop is in excellent condition, with 45% in good condition.

Six percent of the rice crop has headed.  Seventy-eight percent of the rice is in good to excellent condition.

Ninety-seven percent of Arkansas soybeans have emerged, with 74% of them blooming and 43% setting pods.  Sixteen percent of the soybeans are in excellent condition, with 58% rated good and 21% fair.

Nearly all of the state’s winter wheat has been harvested.
